Drayton Mid-Position Valve Actuator is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 11.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Limited life of plastic pegs I bought this to replace a failed actuator on an existing Drayton motorised valve. The two springs in the old actuator (which I assume are there to hold the valve in the set position) were both rattling around loose in the casing as the pegs retaining one end of each spring had broken off. These pegs are plastic, moulded as part of the plastic casing, and evidently had grown brittle with age (speeded up by the warm atmosphere next to the hot water tank) and had broken off. Making these pegs from plastic seems to me to be faulty design, and certain to fail in time. Surely they should be steel for a durable design - can't tell if the new one is the same, but it looks identical from the outside. That said, the actuator does what it's supposed to when new, but given its limited durability must score low in all categories. I actually bought the complete valve plus actuator (item 81844), which was cheaper than the actuator alone, and discarded the valve, but this review relates to the actuator alone.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simple Heating and hot water problems, tripping fusebox and letting by. 5 minute job to change, just 5 wires and clip off/clip on. job done and now no tripping fusebox and heating and water work independently and together perfectly !! A1 ++++

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Central heating wouldn't change from water to heating, found the problem was the actuator, found one on screwfix at a really good price, fitted it easily by swapping wire for wire, took 10 mins, heating working great now. Very easy to fit to existing fittings

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quality product & easy install Had an issue with my central heating and hot water where it did whatever it wanted. Even when you turn the heating off and the thermostat down the radiators would stay hot. Had the issue diagnosed by a plumber friend who told me to buy this mid position valve actuator, easy to fit and has fixed my problem. This was over 1 Year ago and all still working as it should!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Drayton Mid-Position Valve Act This was a very easy item to replace. Simply removed the old one, and copied the wiring of the previous value that had served us since 2000.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Straightforward replacement My boiler was getting major feedback on the gas solenoid valve causing lengthy periods of buzzing. I established that the cause was the mid position valve not operating properly. I ordered a replacement online and collected it within an hour. The removal and fitting of the new valve is an absolute doddle. Care should be taken to correctly wire the unit which I did one cable at a time replacing like for like colour coding. I then fired up the boiler and problem solved. No more feedback. By the way the old valve was fitted in 2007. Not bad service.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Unrealiable I've been through 3 of these, each lasting less than 24 months. Ok when they work but that usually isn't for long.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A quick fix My gas boiler was sometimes continuing to remain on even with the timer controls off and the hot water was getting extra hot. Research online showed the likely culprit to be the 3 way valve. The wet side was fine as the valve could be turned the 45 degrees with ease. The actuator seemed stiff. Screwfix was first choice for a replacement in a hurry. A quick job to fit the new actuator after noting where the coloured wires went. Job done and everything working fine now. Too early to say how reliable it will be hence 3 * for reliability.
