Makita 9403/2 4" Belt Sander 240V is rated 4.9 out of 5 by 33.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Heavy Duty - Excellent! I've used a number of belt sanders over the years but none of them match up to this, it's a beast and rips through the work in no time. Solid construction and very powerful. Just buy it!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very powerful sander. I have used this sander to completely sand down old wooden floorboards. The floorboards were in a poor state, having been covered for years with carpet and were full of of stain/varnish/other general gunk. I was uncertain it would be up to the task as most advice I could find recommended hiring a full blown "walk behind" style belt sander, but after reading success stories on some blogs, I took the plunge and it performed admirably using 40 grit paper for the first pass. It does struggle somewhat with tight spaces, so will still require an edger/detail sander (I have the dewalt one available on this site). I also wouldn't recommend using around radiator pipes as I suspect this has the power to rip right through them should you use your grip. The machine is heavy which is both a blessing (don't have to push down hard whilst sanding) and a curse (knackers you out after periods of long use - take frequent breaks). The dust bag is pretty good - will catch around 80% of dust output I would say. I would also recommend buying replacement pads right off the bat (you can get them online) as after finishing a couple of rooms mine had taken enough of a beating to require changing. For DIYers one word of warning, be extremely careful with the machine at all times, particularly when releasing the power switch as the motor will continue to run at a high speed for several seconds and will gobble up anything in its path if your attention drops. I found this out to my cost and spend the best part of 2 hours dismantling the machine to remove the remnants of my clothing that it had caught as I pulled the machine off the floor after power off!! Presumably the same could happen to its own power cable, so as said, be super careful!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from 16m2 varnished floor Worked a treat to strip old varnish off floorboards... three recommendations: 1) have plenty of sand paper - change it regularly to speed up the job... not the fault of the sander more the choice of paper and grade. 2) Its not great for getting to the edges better to complement with an alternative sander... it can get close but my boards were not flat and it was difficult with a belt sander. but on the bulk of the floor it was excellent. 3) One design floor to be aware of, I stretched the cable and pulled the plug out - then moved it to a closer socket. The button for continuous running didn't reset when power was dropped. As I plugged it in it ran off at speed as I was stood at the socket damaging only the skirting boards and luckily no one was in the way, all I could do was kill the power but the damage was done. My fault but unexpected.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best power tool you can have! This is my first review ever and I thought it's worth sharing how great of this product!Bought this today to sand a couple of pine tables. Very powerful and excellent results! Expensive but it's all worth every penny! Save time and money! Also great customer service at Basingstoke, returned a faulty item, got refund!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Overall Excellent Tool I was using a DIY grade belt sander for sanding solid wooden decorative slabs and decided to up grade to this belt sander and they are literally worlds apart. It halved the time to do the job. I had used this particular sander before so I knew it was a good tool but forgotten how much difference having the right tool for the job makes. I would say it is a bit on the expensive side but defiantly a case of you get what you pay for. As there are not many other 4" wide belt sanders out there I would say this is in a league of its own, a must have tool for doing multiple large surfaces. Some people say it is on the heavy side but I think it is not a bad thing as you can let the weight do the job for you and not have to push down on the machine. Overall and excellent quality tool. Would defiantly recommend!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very good and up to the job I am building a 2m x 1M table and was getting bored with by small orbital sander. This beauty is fantastic. It's we'll build and powerful. Just need to watch when you first use it that you don't take off too much material and start slowly. One or two reviews mention the weight but to be honest that is an advantage because the machine does the hard work and all you need to do is steer it. Good for DIY or semi pro.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just Wow. A `belter` of a sander. It really does a great job. Reliable, efficient, powerful and great quality. A bit on the heavy side though, for the wife! :o)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Powerful, well built sander I have used a variety of cheaper sanders over the last few years and they all break, mainly as a result of dust and wood blocking the sander and entering the motor. I was dubious that a more expensive sander would be that much better but it is. The makita is heavy, it's also big, surprisingly it's also very quiet and easy to use. It comes with a long lead and has good dust removal. I managed to block it once and was happy to find that 4 screws removed the side panel giving easy access for cleaning, also ask parts are available online. Would wholeheartedly recommend and it goes to show you do get what you pay for.
