Mountfield HP164 39cm 100cc Hand-Propelled Rotary Petrol Lawn Mower is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 176.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Value My electric mower died after a relatively short life. Previously, my parents had always owned petrol mowers, which had lasted for years, and having bought a house with a less than exemplary lawn, I decided to revert to a machine with more muscle. As virtually everything seems to be self-assembly these days, apart from checking that all the bits were supplied, I put it together pretty quickly. The old motor mowers had a throttle which allowed the machines to idle, so getting used to the 'dead-mans' automatic cut out took a few minutes, but was easily compensated by the one pull on the rip-cord start. The minor criticisms that I had read before buying, concerned oil and petrol filling, to which I found simple solutions. For the oil, I bought a long spout watering 'can' from my local pound store, the type used for watering potted plants and window boxes. I also bought a small measuring jug for the oil, to save guessing. I found no difficulty in filling the petrol using a normal petrol container with a flex-spout. Living next to a wood, the lawn is liberally peppered with assorted, thick stemmed, vegetation, which the machine deals with, with no obvious stress. Definitely money well spent.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good budget Lawnmower This mower replaced my ancient Briggs & Stratton. This one is very light and thus easy to move around a small garden. The body being plastic doesn't really impact on performance. I've used it a number of times and has always started on first pull. The noise it make is a little odd but that is because I am used to a B&S. Performance is pretty good. The grass box is adequate and the cut is OK though it does miss some bits. Overall please with it. Not sure it will last the 20+ years my old B&S did though!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to Use Easy to set up. Instructions were clear and the mower cuts very well, even on a large patch of lawn.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great little petrol mower Bought for my wife and she assembled it herself and loves it. Perfect for a small fiddly lawn being self propelled. Easy starter and leaves a nice cut.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Don't buy this Lawnmower Poorly designed oil filler, impossible to get at without a very long spouted oil can, which most people won't have. This spoils the whole experience. I definitely don't recommend this mower. Shame, as I thought Mountfield were the benchmark in design.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Its good, very good A very good mower for the price. Light to push, cuts right to the edges, leaves the grass looking very neat and tidy. Its the basic model, hence only four stars for features BUT when its comes to doing the job its far from basic. I would recommend this mower. Its perfect for all small to medium garden lawns.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Does what it says on the tin! First petrol mower. Went for this one over the slightly more expensive HP185 (45cm + steel) Much debate over cutting width - would the 39cm be enough or should I go for the bigger 45cm? Due to a very un-even lawn and total lawn size of about 175m sq - I though the smaller one would do the job and to be honest I think it worked out. The only hassle is getting the oil in (tip - funnel from Wilko) - I used a small funnel fed through from a bigger funnel. Oh, and getting the bottom mower arms on, they need a good push down before you can screw them in. It runs okay I guess, like you'd expect a lawnmower to sound I suppose - doesn't purr like a new Honda NSX, the odd splutter and cough but it's a lawnmower - so after one cut I think it's alright.
