Mountfield MHJ2424 61cm 24.5cc Petrol Hedge Trimmer is rated 3.9 out of 5 by 179.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Workhorse Now into my second year with these little hedge trimmers and still going strong. They have been used for general shrub pruning to lots of privet hedge cutting for my property maintenance business. They have not missed a beat since I've had them and started 2nd pull after being in storage for 2months over winter. Would I buy again - yes definitely as they've payed for themselves 10 times over.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Another leaking fuel cap! No 2 stroke oil provided as I had with my last one. Checked the trimmer over first, lubricated the cutting head sliding surfaces as there was only light oil preservative on the surfaces. mixed fuel and put into tank. Starting was not as quick as my older short blade one. When running it was running rough and very noisy.I started trimming the hedge and it cut the hedge, but was not as free cutting as my shorter one (blade design different). The running was still lumpy after it was warm. After 15 mins use my right leg started itching, but thought nothing of it, but then felt it damp! FUEL was leaking out of the vent hole in the filling cap, just a straight through hole, NO valve of any description. It was also running down onto the HOT engine and exhaust, so it could have ignited and I could have gone up in flames. Mountfield used to have a good name through its solid reliable manufacturing methods (I used to repair mowers etc when I was an apprentice), but this fault is safety critical. If you do purchase one blow through the cap to see if its restricted (should be) or not before setting off from the store in your vehicle. I was refunded my money without any problems after owning it for a few days and finished cutting the 50 mtr long by 3 mtr high hedge with my old trimmer.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Poor starting As a pro gardener I rely on good equipment. This hedge trimmer has been disappointing. When it is running it does a good job and the angles that the handle can be set to is a real bonus. However it can be a real dog to start! I have many different petrol gardening machines and I am well versed in how to start and maintain them. This is different, it is hard to start, but when it is running it is fine. I dread starting it (particularly with a customer watching). When it is running it produces a lot of smoke which is not good when using for hours on end. Mountfield produce generally good equipment, but this is not one of them. When the time comes I will not buy this again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great bit of kit This hedge trimmer starts first time and runs very smoothly. It cuts through mature hedges and shrubs like a hot knife through butter and at this price will have paid for itself after just a few uses. Highly recomended

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Mountfield Hedge Trimmer Purchased the petrol hedge trimmer, fuelled up and the 2 stroke engine started immediately after it was primed. Is very light to use and tackles the thickest of branches with ease. Has been reliable throughout the 7 months I have owned it, great tool.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great tool I have used many Mountfield petrol driven products and this one is a good one. It starts fine and cuts fine too and was a good price. I hope it lasts a long time as I really like this tool a lot.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good piece of equipment Bought this for my husband as he was always cutting through the wire of his electric one. He absolutely loves it. It is slightly on the heavy side however that is because it well made and sturdy, very happy bunny!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Complete rubbish. I've struggled with this for three years now, since I bought it new. It's junk. The motor will usually take me 30 mins and a lot of swearing to get started, if it starts at all. It's always been like that from new. When it does start, the motor is a little underpowered except for fairly light hedges (e.g. won't cut laurel apart from new growth). On the positive side, it is not too heavy, and can be handled fairly easily, and is about the right size for a domestic garden. I've given up and bought a Honda. A bit heavier, but SOOOOO much better.
