Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nest Thermostat Great product, with auto away being the standout feature. That saved me the purchase price with the first winter gas bill. If your hours are regular, then you may find that a simple timer works for you. Just make sure that the thermostat is in a place where it will detect your movement. The intelligent warm up means that you don't need to worry about setting the heating early to warm a cold house. This takes a couple of weeks for the thermostat to learn, but after that it works great. The missing feature is hot water control, for that you need the later 3rd generation model. If you have direct hot water (from a combi boiler) then you can save some money by buying this earlier 2nd generation model

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bought two within one week I have bought two of these. The first was for a relative and I was so impressed I bought another for myself. It is so clever. It is still in the learning phase but it is so easy and clear to use. The phone app allows me to alter the temperature when I am away and I have even controlled the heating when in bed. You do need wifi to get the best out of this. So far so good.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very impressed I installed this myself after a fresh install of an Ideal Vogue C32 combi boiler in my house I have refurbished. The installation instructions focus a lot on replacing an existing thermostat which I didn't have installed (I left the link wire for continuous heating and had a low temp of the radiator water). But instructions were there for wiring to the boiler and it took me about an hour. The system sets up it's own wireless network to the control unit that I wire to the boiler, and worked from the start. I didn't have internet or wifi in my home until last week, which I connected it to and it updated fine. I can now control the heating from an app on my tablet/phone, or a PC if needs be. The system does seems to work very well, with no wasted heat. It looks fantastic on the table stand, but in time I may attach it to the wall, as I have knocked it off the table twice by accident already - no damage done. The control unit runs off either a USB cable (supplied with adaptor), to from a 12vDC (I think) supple generated by the heatlink unit next to the boiler. The heat link needs a 240V DC supply, which I took from the boiler switchboard, and has a 12V DC output available for the control unit if you down want to use a USB. Altogether a simple install, works effectively, and looks great.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Product But This is a good product but it is let down by the fact that the thermostat has to be plugged into the mains to provide the 12v. I have fitted many other wireless thermostats, mainly the Drayton ones and they work on batteries which last a long time and you don't have to have cables running about. If they made this product battery operated or given as an option, it would have five stars.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from OK, but one big limitation.... Looks very nice an all that, and clever at learning (status is still 'learning' and not 'Ready' on mine after 2 months....), however if you want to manually programme, say to come on every morning as you wake up, you can only set it for a minimum of 1 hour, when you might just want a quick 30 mins to take the chill away as you wake up. Even the old clumsy thermostats with the fiddly pegs could handle 15 min intervals, so why not a clever device such as this....? Numerous requests and suggestions for this feature on the official Nest forum but no sensible response form Nest about it. If they are about saving energy, then surely this is a no brainer....

Rated 1 out of 5 by from All Fur Coat I install and design a lot of heating control systems, thought I'd try the nest as it looks nice and seems well designed. Firstly the need to be constantly plugged in via a USB adapter is pretty poor and lends itself to a DIY desktop market. (though can be installed via 12V Wired Supply) My biggest problem has been the range of Nest propriety WiFi or lack of. When I site this stat anywhere useful it is continually offline so ends up on a wire within 20' of the receiver. Very very poor. Heatmiser is a far better system being Mesh network and having a far better range plus a better app, cheaper and easier to add to.. Looks very nice though..
