Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lent Friend Chisels bought this sharpener after lending my chisels to a friend! he brought them back looked like he'd been chopping bricks with them! Use this great little tool within and hour all back to sharp clean edges very pleased saves a fortune replacing. well worth the price the oil does go quickly but a drop of thin engine oil works fine

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Ok for occasional user Found the stone to be poor quality and erodes very quickly when used alot. Plastic distance guide wobbly and soon fell off and got lost. Works ok and sure it is fine for infrequent use but if you sharpen alot invest in better quality I have now.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from ok it will do Not as good as a cheep diamond type stone or natural sharpening stone but good sharpening guide in the kit

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easy to use Really easy to use. My chisels were an absolute mess very abused but after a long sharpen its brought them back. Only things could pull on it is that the sharpening block would be better twice the size but I still manage very easily with it.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Use Your Eyes Instead Flimsy and poorly made bit of kit. Angles on plastic 'guide' are not accurate. Chisel slips about in holder, flimsy plastic wheels are all over the place, very poor quality stone. Really, just use the old fashioned way and trust to your own judgement, just buy a decent stone to do the job, the stone on this thing is like soap and wears down fast. The angles cannot be set correctly with the flimsy and loose piece of plastic gauge. The wheels are plastic and do not fit the axle spindle, making it wobble everywhere. This a poorly designed, flimsy and pretty much useless piece of kit if you want to sharpen your chisels to a reasonable edge.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Save your money This is the first product review I have felt the need to write but I really expected better from Stanley. It is nearly impossible to get a chisel straight and tight while at the correct angle in the honing guide, the thumb screws are far to small to operate properly, especially if you have any traces of the oil on your fingers and the flip out measuring guide fell off the first time of using. The chisels and planes I attempted to sharpen all tried to twist which resulted in one side of the blade not making as much contact with the stone as the other. The stone I got was thicker at one end making it difficult to mount in a holder (personal choice) and also the stone is to narrow to accommodate alot of plane irons without running off the edge. Look at other styles of honing guides if you like to work with sharp tools as this is just not up to the job. Good service from Screwfix as always though.
