Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sturdy Bought this to replace a tape which had begun to get stuck inside its case - very frustrating! This seems very sturdy with a good spring return and the end is riveted three times - how often have you wondered whether your tape measure is adding/deleting millimetres!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ideal measure This tape measure is slightly more expensive but it is worth paying that little bit more. It doesn't jam in the casing and doesn't rust or have the print rubbing off. Ideal to by that extra length so you're not over stretching it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Stanley power lock tape 8m The 8m power lock tape is great to use, mainly because it's not to big .it fits your hands nicely, and the blade is really hard wearing .i use a tape measure all day long and i wouldn't use anything else.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Stanley extending rule Accuracy I have no concerns about the accuracy of the scales. However for internal measurements the device is completely useless. The reason is the ‘back’ edge of the ruler housing which is placed against the internal surface for one end of the measurement is so rounded that exact placement is impossible. For an internal measurement to be reasonably accurate, the ruler needs a flat back to put against a surface. Furthermore, as usual the case of the ruler housing is marked ‘+ 3 in’ for internal measurement. One would think that the other side is marked in centimetres for a metric internal measurement but it is not. If it were, it would need to be marked not 7.5 but 7.6cm as 1 inch = 25.2mm and 7.6cm would be closer to the exact figure. All this comes to nothing because the shape of the ruler housing prevents the instrument from being used for internal measurements anyway. Readability The prominence of the markings of whole numbers of feet is low, being in very small print. There are no markings at all for whole numbers of metres. The markings for 100, 200 etc cm are the same as for 10s of cm. All this makes for an increased likelihood of mistakes in reading in low light levels or awkward locations. Usability The major problem with usability is that when making measurements on a flat horizontal surface (for example table, bench or window cill) the housing of the ruler is so rounded that the ruler will not sit on the surface but just rolls over so the ruler will not stay where it is put. It is an elementary design error which would be so easy to correct but which is very annoying in use. Yes the ruler does have the claimed 2.4 metre stand out – if you can prevent the extended part of the ruler from simply folding over and flopping down. Also after so many years of making extending rulers one would think there would be some soft return mechanism to prevent the ruler slamming back into the housing at high speed (if you are not paying full attention) either damaging the end or hitting your finger very hard. However the belt clip is satisfactory. Packaging The rigid plastic packaging is inconvenient and unnecessary and prevents a potential buyer from trying out the device and looking at the markings. Longevity Stanley used to provide replacement tapes for rulers when they become worn out or damaged. There is no mention of this for this device. Summary A very primitive and disappointing device having elementary design flaws which a manufacturer with the history and experience of Stanley should have ironed out decades ago. The ruler gets one star because the lock and the stand out do appear to work (so far).
